Ryan Salm was born and raised in Westchester County, NY. Early on in life it became clear that he had a mind for travel. His eyes were opened to the beauty of the world through many cross-country road trips with his family. After receiving a BA in Geography and Communications from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1999, he set his sights on global exploration. Camera in hand and his life on his back, Ryan traversed over 30 countries on 6 continents.

Journeys on back roads with the local people have created a common theme in Ryan's work. Radiant colors, vivid landscapes, and enticing faces are the cornerstone of his photography. Ryan's fine art imagery comes from extensive journeys through Asia, Africa, the United States, South America and Europe.

Ryan resides in Lake Tahoe, California where he has lived for the past five years shooting advertising, real estate and portrait photography on the commercial end along with his fine art business. Ryan is the staff photographer for the Sierra Sun and Tahoe World Newspapers in Truckee. Ryan has published work in the Tahoe Quarterly, Canoe & Kayak Magazine and won an award at the 2005 Banff Film Festival. He was named the “Best Photographer in Tahoe 2006”. He shows his work at the Dragonfly Restaurant, Vrooman Fine Art Gallery and the Truckee Gallery, Lighthouse Massage in Tahoe City, New Moon Natural Foods and the Squaw Valley Art, Wine & Music Festival. As a gifted storyteller, Ryan tours the U.S giving informative slideshow presentations. He was twice a keynote presenter at the Patagonia Adventure Series for his work on Mongolian Eagle Hunters and his travels through Mali, Africa.
